What Is A Dental Emergency?

In dentistry, an emergency is a potentially life threatening condition that requires immediate treatment, including:

  • Oral facial trauma ie: a ball, hockey puck or similar object that causes injury to your mouth/jaw/teeth
  • Knocked out tooth – If the tooth looks clean, put it back in its place (its socket). If this is not possible, or if there’s a chance that the tooth might be swallowed, put it in a container of cold milk. Contact our office immediately or the nearest dentist, right away. If you get help within ten minutes, there is a fair chance that the tooth will take root again.
  • Cellulitis or other significant infection(swelling)
  • Prolonged bleeding
  • Pain that cannot be managed by over-the counter medications

If you’re experiencing any of the above, please contact us immediately.

If you’re still unsure, call us, we’re here to help!
Explain your symptoms and ask to be seen as soon as possible.

Chipped or Broken Tooth
Broken teeth can almost always be saved but aren’t typically emergencies unless you cannot get pain relief.

Lost Filling
To help keep your tongue away from the area or if it’s cutting into your cheeks try putting a piece of softened sugarless chewing gum or dental wax in the spot where the filling was lost. This will protect the area for a short period of time. See a dentist as soon as possible.
